Germany Internet Overview
Germany's internet routing centers around Frankfurt, home of DE-CIX, one of the busiest internet exchange hubs globally. The country has a decentralized network setup with many regional utility providers (Stadtwerke) alongside national telecom companies. This means IP geolocation data is generally highly detailed, though traffic from smaller towns often routes through metropolitan data centers.
Does Your IP Address Change?
Most home broadband and mobile connections in Germany get a dynamic public IP address, so it can change when your router reconnects or your provider reassigns it. Many mobile networks also put customers behind carrier-grade NAT, where one public address is shared. Static addresses are usually a paid business option.

How to read these numbers
The registry figures count addresses delegated to organisations based in Germany. The network and city figures count the 141.7 millionIPv4 addresses that geolocate there, which is why the two totals differ. Large address blocks usually geolocate to the owner's headquarters or data centres, so a city's share reflects where networks are registered and hosted, not how many people are online there. Some big holders, such as government, university or corporate networks, are not consumer ISPs at all.

IPv6 Transition & Adoption
Next Generation Protocol Deployment
Germany has strong IPv6 adoption. Deutsche Telekom and regional cable operators made IPv6 the standard for home routers years ago, ensuring smooth transition and better address availability. Learn more about regional routing in our post on how BGP routing works.
How to Use the Location Finder
Paste the German IP address into the search input and hit enter. The database will find the German state (Bundesland), city, internet service provider, and ASN. You can also run a test on your own public IP address by keeping the input box empty, or use our traceroute tool to see intermediate routing hops.
Submit IP/Domain
Type any valid IP or site domain in the input above.
Verify Details
Analyze ISP, geolocation state/city, coordinates and timezone records.
Audit Network
Utilize the returned metrics to troubleshoot latency or perform compliance checks.
